Ghi chú Final Fantasy IV Ultima (Rerun) #44 – Goddess
Final Fantasy IV: Ultima is a hack by 8-bit fan that aims to present a more expansive version of the classic. New weapons, spells, bosses, and a modified overworld are just a few of the changes on tap.
The latest version of the patch can always be found here:
Version being played: 11.5
Zeromus may have been struck down, but we could potentially shame him so much more. There’s plenty left to this final dungeon to explore including two hidden paths leading to optional bosses.
For this first one, it’s hidden in the area you warp to right after reaching the final save point before Zeromus. Heading to the tile as far west as you can go upon warping leads to a new area which seems like a dead end, but there is another path to the northeast with what looks like another CPU boss of sorts and sparklies blocking any chance of going around it. The other hidden path out on the main path to the final fight will lead to that.
For now though? Heading west some more leads to another hidden warp, this one taking you to a sword ripe for picking up.
Make sure everyone in your team has a way to block being confused like Headbands or Crystal Rings because once you examine the sword, a voice challenges your team to combat to claim the sword of power. This voice is none other than one of the three guardian deities that Kefka of Final Fantasy VI fame used in his bid for world destruction, Goddess.
Goddess makes a pretty serious first impression by opening up with White. With her magic strength, it’s likely killing whomever it targets, doing around 5-8k damage. Surprisingly, this is her only real damaging move. She does have physicals, but they’re few and far between and do very low damage.
Goddess puts her most dangerous abilities into the myriad of status ailment skills she throws out. She can potentially paralyze, mute, charm, or petrify with most of her skills. The worst though ends up being Whisper which inflicts pig. Seems innocent enough…until you realize that she aims it at the entire party. Only a Ribbon & Crystal Ring combo is going to ensure you’ll be immune to pig while still being immune to confusion.
Oh, and you also have to be doing a constant stream of damage because she does fire off Vitalize from time to time. She even tosses in Cure 3 when she runs low on health, but it’s only 3k or so. If you think your damage is low, you can always cast a Wall on the boss after doing roughly 40-50k damage.
Edward once again proves just how powerful his support capabilities are, possessing the one counter to the full party Whisper with salve’d Remedies. Obviously, that also comes with the bonus of lifting any other nasty ailments the team’s suffering from.
As for damage, luckily Goddess doesn’t have the high defense that several previous bosses had so physicals work quite well on her. Since I’m employing Edge & DK Cecil, that’s gonna end well…assuming Goddess isn’t killing anyone that’s about to throw a high end damaging nuke her way.
The reward for defeating Goddess is the so called sword of power mentioned a couple times, the Ultima Sword. Not to be confused with the Ultima-II that Golbez handed over before the final fight, it’s a slightly inferior version of the weapon, lacking fifteen point boosts to wisdom & willpower as well as having a slightly weaker spell on hit. Everything else remains the same, up to and including the max attack power and able to be equipped by anyone.
…Actually, I lied when I said the Ultima Sword was the reward. The real reward comes when you see a vision of several locales around the earth, the earth’s underworld, and even a few moon locations. Goddess implores you to seek out these locales for some ancient relics useful in dealing with evil. Long story short? All those sparklies we’ve seen in several areas can now be interacted with. Optional fights await at every sparklie, meaning more challenges to have fun with. You’re then kicked back to the final save point.
Next time…might as well deal with that new CPU boss before going on an optional boss hunt.
